Discourse Advertising

what is Advertisement?

Advertising has become a popular business nowdays. we can find it everywhere in various forms; printed, television, radio, magazine, newspaper or internet. Well, Burnett & Moriaty (2003) defined that ad as a paid non-personal communication from an identified sponsor using mass media to persuade or influence an audience. Advertisement is a form of discourse which make a powerful contribution to how we construct our identities.
The function of the ads are informing, persuading,built consumer awareness


Magazine's Ad

This is Prudential ad for PRUmy Child, a assurance program for an unborn child. They're tagline "Di saat Anda mempersiapkan kehadirannya, kami mempersiapkan perlindungannya."  If we see the picture briefly, there is a fetus, and its drawn with letters which is consist of  the questions, hopes,anxiety of the baby when he/she born. And, the answer to all the qustions, anxieties is PRUmy child.
When we read their tagline, they use a word we're to address the reader may have the effect of making it refer to the commercial company.

Television's ad
This is an ad of low-calorie sugar Tropicana Slim, a sugar for people with diabetes or for people at risk of diabetes. In printed or visual advertisement this in the television, we can see directly the physical aspect of communication such as gestures, body postures, and eye contact from the actor. The gestures, body position and eye contact are called as paralanguage. It is an important contribution to the overall effect of the advertisement because we can realize gradually what the ad want to send to us.
According to the ad below, the gesture shown by the son when he remove the junk food, fill the fridge with fruits and vegetables.




Radio's ad.

In Radio, we cannot see the pictures or words but just hear the sound. The ads in the radio usually have a long conversation to described what they supposed to.


Internet's Ad
This advertisement taken from National Family Planning Coordinating Board's site. This ad address to the young of Indonesia to avoid 4T,  too young, too old, too much and tightly  to get a children. The purpose of this ads is reduce the number of birth in Indonesia.
